Here are my three good things for today:
1. MY GOGGLES CAME IN THE MAIL. Even more awesome than I expected, which is saying a lot, because I expected much. I just want to wear them all the time!! They are SO FLIPPING COOL. Too bad I have to wait for Halloween.
2. I cooked dinner again this evening without disaster.* Chicken and mushrooms! Took rather longer than I had expected, but all in all it was a grand success.
3. The rain stopped just in time for me to leave work without damaging my leather boots. I have a singular gift for selecting weather-inappropriate footwear while I get ready in the morning. Fortunately, I got lucky today :)
What are your three good things?
*Except for a burn on the inside of my upper-arm. My mom was like, "Sweetie, how did you manage that? Normal people don't burn themselves there." I'm gifted, Mom. Not everyone can do what I did.

If you happen to be family of Bobbety Cranborne, you may not want to read this because I make fun of his name and you might get offended.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. Post-gym showers always make me feel super-squeaky-clean. In fact, I can't think of a time when I feel more clean than when I shower directly after exercising. Thinking... thinking... yup, that's it.
2. My family has a Netflix subscription. This means that I could watch Dr. Who all night long if I wanted to. I am in a very deep Dr. Who phase at the moment.* I'm currently catching up on everything that I've missed. Everyone should watch this show because it is SO AWESOME.
3. I'm loving the book I'm reading right now. 'Chips': The Diaries of Sir Henry Channon. I love true stories. And this one is so much fun because it covers the Abdication Crisis and World War II, all from the perspective of a real-life MP. I LOVE inside ball. And one of the other MPs is named Bobbety Cranborne (a man!), which just makes it so much better. I mean, his real name is Robert, but he is called Bobbety. In my opinion, if you have your eye on a serious political career, you might want to go for something a bit more macho than Bobbety. It brings to mind Peter Rabbit. I'm just sayin'.
What are your three good things?
*I really want a floating TARDIS for my desk at work. I'm not going to spend money on it, but if the universe is listening, it would be great if I could, like, find one just sitting by the side of the road or something.

Zeya the Wonder-Cat.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. The visitors at work only stayed for a couple of hours this morning. This means that I was allowed to eat my lunch at my desk like normal, instead of being forced to eat in the break room with all the loud people.*
2. I thought my friend's cat was going to die, but it looks like she might be okay. She has a mass in her abdomen, but it's not attached to any vital organs, and it appears to be shrinking. Vet is cautiously optimistic. This is good news, because she's a very sweet little cat and I'm quite attached to her.
3. Avocado club eggrolls. I don't think I need to say anything more about that.
What are your three good things?
*They seem to think that when I'm sitting alone reading, it means that what I actually want is to have a conversation. This is not what I want. I want to look up and exchange pleasant hellos, and then continue reading. They are very nice people, but not the most adept when it comes to recognizing social cues.

I think I might be a cheese robot. Don't tell anyone.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. Picnic at Pepsico and general wandering around White Plains/Purchase with Ally, Meg, and Katie. We have a gift for making it seem as if all the years between graduation and now didn't actually happen, and that we were just in college five minutes ago. Perfect day! Couldn't have made it better if I tried.
2. There was a lot of cheese at our picnic this afternoon. I did not know that it was possible for me to eat that much cheese and suffer no adverse consequences. I must not be human.*
3. I managed to get Katie to the train with one minute to spare. She made it! I am good.
What are your three good things?
*There was blueberry cheese, you guys. BLUEBERRY CHEESE.

I made dinner tonight. Not kidding.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. I cooked dinner tonight! I mean real food!* I did not burn myself, or the kitchen. Great strides were made in my personal evolution as a human this evening.
2. I tried coffee (a pumpkin spice latte, to be specific) and did not like it. I do not need a caffeine addiction.
3. Part of my Halloween costume came in the mail! A black and gold brocaded, fully-steel-boned corset with brass hook-and-eye clasps down the front. This is going to be the best Halloween ever.
What are you three good things?
*There were grown up ingredients like sherry and walnuts involved.

My Nerf archery skills aren't what they used to be.
Here are my three good things from the weekend:
1. Alison and I started sorting through the contents of her office. This is good, because the quicker the office becomes the new guest bedroom, the quicker I can stop sleeping on the sofa-bed.* My super-incredible upstairs guest bedroom with fireplace has been appropriated by the man and woman of the house for the new master bedroom, so I've got to move downstairs. Ah, well. Into each life a little rain must fall. And I will have a new place to sleep before the winter!
2. I had a very intense backyard sword fight with the Heather boys on Saturday. You haven't suffered true humiliation until you've been hamstrung by an eight-year-old. Although I will say in my own defense that my only weapon was a Nerf bow and arrow. Not very effective in close combat situations, but good fun all around.
3. Lamb and leeks for dinner on the screen porch last night. Very autumnal. And delicious.
What are your three good things?
*However, as sofa-beds go, this one is rather comfortable. Or at least it became so once I discovered that if I just sleep in the middle of the bed in the first place, I'll stop rolling towards it. I'm too embarrassed to tell you how long it took for me to figure that out.

I am going to have the greatest Halloween costume of my entire life thus far.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. I figured out what I'm going to be for Halloween! I can't tell you, but I can give you a hint: think steampunk. I'm so excited!!*
2. My cat Alice looked super cute this afternoon when I came home from work. Waiting at the top of the stairs, front paws hooked over the lower railing. Adorable.
3. The parents are out at a movie, so I'm enjoying some alone time at the house. Good grief, I sound like a teenager.
What are your three good things?
*See, every year at the office there is a huge Halloween party. Everyone dresses up, and this year I'm going to look awesome. There will be goggles. Or a hat. Not sure which yet, but definitely one or the other.

Let's face it— "Aladdin 2: The Return of Jafar" just wasn't very good.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. I didn't expect my skirt to fit me this morning, but it did. Consequently, I looked much cuter at work than originally anticipated. That skirt is now my new favorite.
2. It's going to be great sleeping weather tonight. "Crispy," as my mother would say. Which makes me think of Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.* Which, in my possibly controversial opinion, was every bit as good as the first one. Not many movie sequels can equal the original, you know. Off the top of my head, I can think of Toy Story 2 and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
3. I just took a shower, but did not get my hair wet. This is good, because that means that I don't have to go through the laborious process of drying it. Sometimes it's just too hard.
What are your three good things?
*And if you know why, then you've just moved up significantly in my book.

Hunger is the best sauce.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. I think I'm going to finish my book tonight. That means I can start the next one. I love trilogies. Although I should most definitely take the time to enjoy the book I'm reading now, instead of rushing through it in my haste to get to the next one. I don't want to miss anything.
2. I was stuck behind a slow driver this morning, and it didn't bother me in the least. This is rare. Usually that sends my blood pressure through the roof. Today, however, I decided to just chill and enjoy the drive. It's not like I was in a huge rush to get to work.
3. Mom cooked really delicious salmon for dinner this evening. Made even more delicious by the fact that I was starving.* I read a quotation recently which said that "hunger is the best sauce." How true that is.
What are your three good things?
*Seriously, my stomach was practically eating itself. For a little while, I actually thought I was imploding.

I heart hummus.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. NPR has published their list of the top 100 science fiction/fantasy books of all time. I shall work through them one by one (skipping all the ones I've read already, of course) and be a happy camper.
2. At work, I received an entertaining email from a very enthusiastic paralegal who clearly loves her job. Exclamation points! Smiley faces! Even a "pretty please." It all left me feeling a bit exhausted, really. But it was a nice change from the boring ones.*
3. I had hummus for dinner. Hummus is yummus.
What are your three good things?
*And vastly preferable to the downright nasty ones that I've seen. Fortunately, I have yet to be on the receiving end of one of those, which is a good thing because it would probably look really unprofessional if I cried at my desk. I don't do well when people are angry with me. It's why I've never attempted to be a waitress. I have no doubt that I would be stupendous—I'm a very nice person and I have an excellent memory, but the first time that someone was unhappy with their meal and took it out on me, I would collapse in on myself like a dying star.

Excuse me while I squeal like a squealy girl.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. I accidentally slept in until 10:30 this morning. Woops. It was awesome.
2. Mom and I went to some antique stores in Flemington today, and fortunately for my wallet, I didn't buy anything. I'm in a non-spending phase right now.* We also walked past a place that was holding adoptions for puppies and kittens. REALLY CUTE puppies and kittens. I mean, I don't think I've ever seen a puppy or kitten that isn't cute, but these were cuter than average. They were so cute that they are causing me to completely lose my head and gush about them like a disgusting fountain of sappy gushiness. Oh my god, Molly, SHUT UP.
3. The parental units and I went to a new-ish barbecue place off Rt. 12 for dinner. Quite possibly one of the most satisfying meals I've ever had. Everything was great! They even had chess pie on the dessert menu. I will give you ten bonus points if you know what chess pie is.
What are your three good things?
*Except for the part where we also went to Kohls, and I bought two handbags.

I wish I had thought to name my cat Pasta Batman.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. Before I left the house this morning, I remembered to put a Band-Aid on my heel so that my grown-up shoes wouldn't give me a blister. Beauty knows no pain. The things I do for Fancy Dress-Up Day at work. But I rocked the shoes :)
2. The parents and I went window shopping for sofas this evening, and I saw a man asleep on one of the displays. I mean completely asleep. As if he'd been there for hours. I have ALWAYS WANTED to do that.* Hats off to you, sir.
3. On the This American Life podcast, I heard two little kids telling a story about how their dog wound up with the name Pasta Batman. Which, in my opinion, is the best name for a dog I've ever heard. Ever.
What are your three good things?
*Ever since I read From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, I have wanted to somehow hide in a store (or a museum) all day and then sleep in one of the display beds at night. I don't know why. It just sounds like fun to me.

You could use my hair for surgical thread today. It is that clean.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. As an experiment, I got up early and went to the gym before work. I discovered that I like this much better than going after work, and everything was great until fifteen minutes into my elliptical routine when That Time of the Month snuck up and sucker-punched me.* It hurt too much to keep running, so I had to quit. But I still like the early-morning workout thing. I think I'm going to keep doing it.
2. Katie Lewis found a ukulele at Gymboree, and they let her have it for free! We're going to form a ukulele band and play on the subways. I just decided this now. I hope she's okay with it.
3. I washed my hair twice today. Once this morning after the gym, and again this evening because I'm meeting some important people at the office tomorrow and I want it to be squeaky-clean. I've heard that cleanliness is next to Godliness. Let's just say that I'm trying to get really close.
What are your three good things?
*It does not give me a nice warning to let me know it's approaching. There is no transition, no gentle knock at the door, no friendly "Hello? I just want to let you know that I'm going to be visiting for the next seven days, and I'll probably start moving my stuff in within the next few hours." It's more like nothing, nothing, nothing, then "HEY I'M HERE LET'S GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD." How gauche.

I'll be spending the rest of my four-day week in Remedial Art, thank you very much.
Here are my three good things for today:
1. I have A LOT to do at work tomorrow. This means the day will go by quickly. I hope.
2. I just drew a pretty sweet picture of a bird. I have my moments. Although for the most part, I'm pretty artistically challenged. I'm sure that if my elementary school could have somehow found a way to put me in remedial art, they would have.*
3. It's already Tuesday, even though it feels like Monday. Oh, thanks, Labor Day! This is so much better than thinking it's Friday and then suddenly realizing that it's Wednesday.
What are your three good things?
*I don't even know if remedial art is a real thing, but if it is, that's where I belong.

A weekend of good things!
I was away from Lappy for the weekend, so here are three good things over three days:
1. I saw the Heathers! Finally! After two months away in Australia, they came home and I got to see them.* We did some rearranging of their upstairs bedrooms, which involved lots of furniture moving. Every muscle in my body is crying out in total agony, which is good because now I don't feel guilty about not going to the gym for four days in a row.
2. There were three baptisms at church on sunday, and the Rector tried to baptize the same kid twice. Well, I thought it was funny.
3. I got my first actual copyediting job today! For real actual money! My super awesome friend Lara Swanson is a very talented web developer who also sometimes writes articles for very important web design magazines, and she asked me to take a look at one of her submissions today. It was a lot of fun, AND she is paying me real dollars. I am officially a freelance copyeditor! Thank you Lara!!!
What are your three good things?
*And they brought me a turtle. (A painted wooden one, not a real one!) It's Aboriginal art, and quite pretty. I've named him Spot. I like him a lot.

I love crab cakes. Crabby crabby crab cakes.
My three good things for today:
1. I wore a dress to work, and it wasn't even fancy dress up day. Everyone noticed. And then told me I looked like a school teacher.*
2. Mom and I went to Blue Fish for dinner. I've been dreaming about a crab cake sandwich for the better part of a week now. That dream came true tonight.
3. I'm packing my bag tonight to go spend the weekend with the Heathers! I haven't seen them for two months. So excited!!
What are your three good things?
*Two separate people actually got up from where they were working and came over to my desk to tell me that I looked like a school teacher. Thanks, guys.

The office edition (not the TV show)
Here are my three good things for today:
1. The maintenance crew came and ripped up all the damaged carpet today. No more fish tank smell! They had to move all the furniture and everything, so the supply room is totally empty. It's really fun in there now because there's a great echo.*
2. I have a job. Also benefits. If we could get real here for a sec, I'm really glad I have a job. I mean, the work I do doesn't blow my socks off or anything, but I don't hate it, and I'm employed. It's pretty rough out there and I wouldn't want to face it with no money.
3. I'm incredibly comfortable where I'm sitting on my bed right now, and I don't want to move. Ever. Just bring me my meals on a tray. And hand me my book, please.
